Athletics and Sports
The Civic Athletic Committee of Paterson
The Civic Athletic Committee of Paterson was a community enterprise started in 1939 designed to encourage sports-participation in our city. Each year an award was given to outstanding performer in the Eastside-Central football game which is held at Hinchliffe Stadium. A committee composed of out-standing football experts decided the choice. The award, known as the "John R. Wilson Award", was made at an annual dinner attended by the squads of both schools.
In 1947 the dinner was held in the Susquehanna Hotel, Paterson, on December 10th. John V. Breslin was President. In that year the award was a suit of clothes from the Howard Clothes Store at 160 Market Street.
